No Match for a Good Blaster – except maybe a giveaway!

Illustration, Personal Work, Shirts For Sale 13 Comments

I have a new t-shirt design that I’ve been working on for quite awhile, and this time it’s debuting in my very own shop!

Inspired by the classic Han Solo quote “Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.” this design collects famous guns, blasters, disintigrators, rayguns and pulse pistols from 26 different movies and television shows (with a limit of just one weapon per franchise). Several of these created universes have a wealth of awesome weaponry so I’ve done my best to choose what I felt was the most iconic single weapon from each one.

“No Match for a Good Blaster” is printed on 100% fine jersey cotton American Apparel t-shirts in both guys and girls sizes from Small to 2XL, and available only in my shop! I’ve also had it printed as a 5″x3″ vinyl sticker.

Now here’s the fun part! To celebrate this new design I’ll be giving away a FREE shirt, as well as LOTS of stickers. To enter, just email me a list of the movie or show that each weapon comes from. The first 10 people who get all 26 correct will win a free sticker! After the first 10 winners, I’ll pick one more winner every day for TWO WEEKS, for a total of 24 sticker winners. Also, everyone who enters will be eligible to win a free shirt which I’ll give away on March 31st.

You can also win by participating on Twitter or Tumblr! On tumblr, just follow me and reblog my “Blaster” post, or follow me on Twitter and post this message: 26 famous Sci-Fi guns on one shirt – how many can you name? Win goodies from artist @ianleino, details here: http://bit.ly/26Blasters

All together, there were more than 25 winners, and I sent stickers all over the US, as well as to Canada, Australia, Serbia, Russia and Germany! You can see the full list in this blog post. Thanks to everyone who participated, and congratulations to all of the winners!

Man, that “gun” that forms the trigger is a BUGGER! Can’t figure it out for the life of me… Can you give a yes or no answer to the question, “Are these guns only from live-action TV shows or movies?” Because I’m wondering if they can be from animes or cartoons.

Haha, there are some tough ones for sure. The majority of these are from live action TV shows and movies, but there is also ONE from an anime and ONE from a cartoon. Hope that helps!

C’mon, the trigger is easy, I knew it right away! … just kidding, it took me and some friends 3 days of wasting way too much time googling to figure that one out and it was the last one left unknown. You kind of stretched the “one per franchise” rule with that one, didn’t you? (I hope that’s not too much of a clue)

Out of curiosity, how many correct submissions have you got so far? How many that include all 26 but have some incorrect?

Has anyone figured out all 26 yet? I’m working on it but dang, that’s a lot of hardware. :-)

So the one in the middle that looks like an overgrown pistol with a long magazine sticking out and the barrel shroud with holes in it is actually a real weapon, with no mods that I can see, the Tec -9. It’s been used in a ton of movies.

Yeah that one does stick out a bit I know, but it was used prominently in one of my all-time favorite movies (spoiler: Big Trouble in Little China) so I just had to include it.

That is a totally awesome design with a great selection of weapons running the gamut of sci-fi – there’s got to be a favorite here for sci-fi fans of ANY age. I spent way too much time with my teenage son trying to figure these out. I hope I got them all but if not, that in itself is a tribute to some great gun designs. Several have been used with minor variations in later movies, sometimes as an homage to the earlier movie. Sci-fi buffs are a loyal bunch, you know!! I’ll be watching your site for more designs and will be shopping for some guy birthdays soon, so keep up the good work!

So how does the contest is going ?
I’ve sent an email 2 days ago with all 26 but didn’t received an answer yet, is there no place left ? ^^

I couldn’t do this at all. I made the mistake of starting by looking for a light-saber first. It took me 20 minutes to realize the artist had probably left it out because that would be too EASY right. right right like i’m not stupid but it was pretty iconic shit – I’m only 30 but anyways the lightsaber is obligatory i mean we still have Star Wars around now – it’s on DVD and everything – don’t show the kids the last three movies OBVIOUSLY but hey, I just thought it would be in there. I’ll look again and delete this post if I do find one in there lol omg XD

      Hi Rube,

Of course in a round up of all-time awesome weapons, a lightsaber would be at the top. This design, though, is just guns and blaster-type weapons, so a lightsaber would have been out of place. I did include one in my “Choose Your Weapon” design though, so you may want to check that out.

Thanks for the response, it confirmed some of my guesses. I’m stuck on the trigger. When you have all of your winners, will you be a mensch and let us know what they all are? I know when I find out what the trigger weapon is, I’m going to be kicking myself.
